A growing field not limited to kiddies
Chiropractic pediatrics is a growing field due to the fact that it has been recognized and accepted that children need chiropractic help also. This area of the chiropractic field involves the treatment and cure of otitis media, asthma, allergies, infantile colic, and enuresis amongst other ailments. Incredibly enough, chiropractic pediatrics is also involved in the treatment of cerebral palsy, epilepsy, myasthenia gravis, ADHD, and Tourette Syndrome.
As expected there already is an International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and in 2009, it produced the results of a study which revealed that, “The indicated primary reason for chiropractic care of children was ‘wellness care’. Such care would require manipulating the spines of healthy children for “subluxation correction.” In “normal English” this means that the main reason chiropractic is used in children is to correct the curvature of the spine. Pediatric subluxation correction is most often seen in, primarily, infants and adolescents, in correcting scoliosis – a sideways curvature of the spine.
Chiropractic pediatrics is not limited to infants, children and adolescents. The treatments may commence even as early as with newborns. Natural birthing may “stress your infant’s spine and developing nerve system. The resulting irritation to the nerve system caused by spinal and cranial misalignment can be the cause of many newborn health complaints.” Symptoms such as colic, breathing problems, nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions and chronic infections in newborns often are related to nerve system problems and, have been treated and cured with Chiropractic Pediatrics.
Pre-natal care is also considered part of Chiropractic Pediatrics. Some of the problems this field addresses are:
- Pregnancy discomfort
- Breech birth alignments
- Post-natal aches and pains
- Postpartum depression
- Lower back pain
- Menstrual pain (post-partum)
- Hormonal imbalances
